The 21st century is fast-paced and highly competitive. Not having the right skills to get ahead is like putting on a blindfold and wondering why you can’t hit the target!

With the skills covered in this article, you will have an arsenal of tools that will help you build a successful side hustle from home. Side hustles are a great way to make extra money, gain experience and learn new skills. What’s not to love? When it comes down to it though, there are some skills that you will need to be successful in any side hustle. I wanted to share mine as an aircraft engineer and digital marketer

What Are Transferable Skills?

“The future belongs to those who learn more skills and combine them in creative ways.” — Robert Green

In this situation, I am talking about skills that are essential to your success, no matter what business or side hustle you are in. These are the skills you need to have in order to get by, make a decent living, and achieve true financial independence. Let’s take a look at a few of these “must-have” skills: Communication Skills — You need to be able to communicate clearly and effectively with both your customers and your employees. This is especially important if you decide to work from home or go into business for yourself. It is also important if you ever want to become an entrepreneur.

1 . Time Management and Task Prioritizing

“He who every morning plans the transactions of that day and follows that plan carries a thread that will guide him through the labyrinth of the most busy life.” — Victor Hugo

These are skills that are essential to managing your time effectively. Even though you may not realize it, time is the most valuable commodity you possess. You can always make more money, but you only have 24 hours each day.

The ability to manage your time is perhaps the most valuable skill you can learn. It will serve you well no matter what business you are in, and it will be a huge advantage when it comes to becoming financially independent. To help you with this, I am going to give you some tools that will help you manage your time more efficiently and effectively.

2 . Building coding or no — code websites

Code and media are permissionless leverage. They’re the leverage behind the newly rich. You can create software and media that works for you while you sleep. — Naval ravikant

We now live in an age where digital marketing is essential for any business. If you want your side hustle to be successful, you will need to know how to create simple 1-page websites that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also generate leads and sales.

You don’t need to have a CS degree you can get started with some of the tools below

Simple one-page sites and funnels

  • Carrd
  • Leadpages
  • Clickfunnels

Intermediate

  • Webflow
  • Wix
  • Squarespace
  • wordpress

Pro-level

  • Bubble
  • Hard Core coding Basically

3. Sales and marketing skills

“You have to tell a story before you can sell a story.” — Beth Comstock

You don’t need to be a marketing expert, but you do need the ability to convince people why they would want your product or service and why buying it from you is better than going somewhere else.

If your side hustle involves selling something, whether it’s on Amazon or eBay, Etsy or Shopify, you will need some basic understanding of marketing. This will help you understand the basics of both digital and old-fashioned marketing, so if you ever want to start your own business, you have some background knowledge. Books like Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion by Robert Cialdini and other books do paint a picture of how this is done.

In Robert’s book, he outlines reciprocity, social proof, scarcity, liking, and commitment/consistency, authority as the six principles of persuasion used by the persuaders of the World. Politicians, Salespeople, Ecommerce IG stores, Fundraisers, your mum, your boyfriend may have employed this knowingly or unknowingly.

Digital marketing skills are increasingly important in the sales and marketing arena. With so much competition online, it’s crucial to learn how to use digital platforms like social media and SEO for your side hustle’s success. The best way to do this is by taking a course or reading up on the subject matter.

4. Overcoming The Fear of Failure

“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” — Michael Jordan

People often fear failure. They might be afraid of being judged for their mistakes or they may worry about the consequences. But, they have to remember that there is always a chance to bounce back from failure, and it’s important not to let those fears stop them from trying new things! In this blog post, I’ll be talking about how you can overcome your fear of failing in order to take on challenges and do great things.

The one thing you need more than anything else when overcoming your fear of failing is patience. It takes time to see results, so don’t get discouraged if you feel like nothing is happening right away! Remember that every step forward will help build up momentum for the next challenge.

5. Self-Discipline

“Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.” — Jim Rohn

You need the self-discipline to achieve financial independence. You may have all the skills, time, and resources you need, but unless you have a certain level of self-discipline, it will be impossible for your business dreams to become a reality.

Self-discipline is the force that will keep you moving towards your dreams until those dreams become a reality.

In fact, self-discipline is what separates those who have big dreams from those who actually realize them! When it comes to achieving financial independence, there are no shortcuts. And although delayed gratification may not be as rewarding as instant gratification, it’s the only way to get what your want and need.

If you want to be successful in business, self-discipline is an absolute must! All the success and fortune in the world won’t help if you don’t have self-discipline. To help with this I am going to share some of my favorite self-discipline tips with you.

Self-Discipline Tips:

Remember that all progress is incremental and that you need to take it one small step at a time. You can’t force yourself to be disciplined overnight — it takes time!

When you have a task that must be completed, start with the first step and work from there. Don’t worry about completing everything before you start — just focus on doing one thing at a time.

The best way to eat an elephant in your path is to cut him up into little pieces”. — African proverb

This is basically what has helped me -Just taking the first step.
